Wilderness Freedom
A picturesque drive through fertile countryside brings you to the Tarkine wilderness and the very edge of the World.
Stand atop a rocky coastline continually pounded by thundering surf or walk along a remote beach and gaze out over the edge of the World. Thousands of kilometres of wild ocean separate the west coast of Tasmania from the next landfall in South America.
Wandering west along Bass Strait allows for stops at some of Tasmania’s most loved locations. Stanley dates back to the 1820s and is a quaint fishing village tucked away in a sheltered bay behind the monolithic, volcanic core known as ‘The Nut’ – treat yourself to the chairlift ride to the top for great views!
Step back in time at historic Highfield House, former headquarters of the Van Diemans Land Co. and visit Tasmania’s newest tourism destination, Dismal Swamp which involves a thrilling 110 metre slide down into the swamp floor where the forest ‘Maze’ leads to fascinating art installations inspired by the swamp ecology.
Opportunity to browse through antique and craft shops, perhaps join a seal cruise, or visit the Stanley Aquarium for an insight into the local fishing industry.
Cast your cares away from the ‘edge of the World’.
